National Champions - Florida State Seminoles "A Perfect Season" In the National Championship game a year before, Florida State was simply outplayed by a talented and determined Tennessee team. The memory of that defeat drove the Seminoles to a perfect season in 1999 and a match-up with feisty Virginia Tech in the 2000 Nokia Sugar bowl for the National Championship. The Hokies, with gifted red-shirted freshman quarterback Mike Vick, had the Seminoles down early, but the explosive Florida State offense led a stirring comeback to defeat Virginia Tech 46-29.
