In a game that featured two Heisman Trophy finalists, running back DarrenMcFadden of Arkansas and quarterback Chase Daniels of Missouri, it was defense and turnovers that set the tempo for the game. The Tigers' stingy defense contained McFadden, one of college football's most explosive players, while forcing 5 turnovers. Arkansas, focusing heavily on the Tigers' passing attack led by Daniels, opened the door for a breakout game by Missouri running back Tony Temple. Temple rushed for 281 yards and four touchdowns, both Cotton Bowl individual game records on his way to offensive MVP honors. Propelled by Temple's record-setting performance and strong defensive effort, Missouri captured their 12th victory of the season, the most wins in a season in school history.
