Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers

Inaugural Year: 1919

Stadium: Lambeau Field (Capacity: 81,441)

City: Green Bay, Wisconsin

The Green Bay Packers got their start back in 1919 as an independent team. Two years later in 1921, the Packers became a franchise in the National Football League. Having great success, the Packers were the only NFL team to beat the American Football League before the merger that combined the two leagues. Two of the most notable icons in football are from the Packers organization. Vince Lombardi who coached the team from 1959-1967 led the Packers to multiple NFL Championships and AFL-NFL Super Bowl Championships. The trophy the Super Bowl contenders play for every year is named after Vince Lombardi. The second notable icon is Brett Favre. He was the Packers Quarterback from 1992-2007 who led the team to their 1996 Super Bowl championship. From 1957 to the present day, the Packers compete in their famous home stadium, Lambeau Field. The Lambeau Leap is one thing that has made this stadium famous. Packers players will jump into the stands into the open arms of cheering fans in the back of the end zone after scoring a touchdown, giving it the title, “The Lambeau Leap.” Packers fans are often called Cheese Heads and are often seen wearing a hat that looks like a slice of cheese at games.
